Pitons or pegs there all the same really but now only used on scottish winter climbs or for replacing worn pegs again at your peril! These are the normal Z shape in 2 sizes depending how big or deep the crack to be placed into. These are only used as a last resort as more modern less destructive forms of protection is now on the market but these are still used on big wall trips due to there cost.
